This past week I have been reflecting on how it feels to be both a teacher and a student simultaneously. I've noticed that the two are fairly similar. Even when I am teaching, I am learning along side and from my students. I am their partner in learning.
When I'm teaching I make my teaching presence known by being confident, building and maintaining strong relationships with my students and by fostering and enforcing classroom norms.
The art work I created above is a quote I recently discovered that resonates with me and my teaching. This quote reminds me that in order to establish a classroom that is safe, inclusive, and runs smoothly, it is crucial that I put in all my effort. If I want to see my classroom flourish, I need to take action in order to make a change and avoid making excuses for why things play out the way they do. Teaching is about taking responsibility for the education you provide to your students and the only way to see positive results in your classroom is to take action to make changes.
