Entry No. 6, October 3, #TurnOnTheLights

Writer's picture: Sami AusterSami Auster

This week I have been thinking a lot about how art contributes to our society. Art allows people to see things in new perspectives that they may have otherwise never considered. Some artists use art to make a statement about society and to question societies norms.

The artwork I created above is a reminder to myself that I have the power to find the light in the darkness. I have the ability to find positives in the negative experiences I've gone through. To turn on a light you have to pull a cord or click a button and then the darkness is illuminated by light. I try to remind myself when i'm faced with a negative experience that there are lessons to be learned. If we didn't experience the things each of us have gone through, we wouldn't be the people we are today.
