Project Description:
Students will be imagining their own pirate adventure. They will imagine the place they are traveling to find their treasure and will design their own pirate ships by using colored construction paper.

Documentation
Students focused on creating their pirate ships to add to their painted background. Below shows documentation of discoveries and observations made throughout this process.
Students started by cutting out the shapes out of construction and foam paper. The student shown in the video below displayed instinctual creativity by creating a small heart-shaped ship. He made his own artistic decision to create a unique shape to add to his background.
Some students discovered that they could cut out shapes out of foam or paper to add more elements to their artwork. The student shown in the video on the left utilized the foam paper by creating a face to decorate her ship. The student in the middle video discovered that he could add more to the background by cutting out a paper sun to glue onto the canvas. The student show in the video to the right used foam shapes to add a person to his ship.
To attach their ships to the canvas, some students used different techniques to problem solve. The student shown in the video below decided that he needed two stacks of foam paper to hold up the flag of his ship because it would be more sturdy.
The student in the video below, completed her ship so she made the artistic choice to decorate it by drawing herself and her friends on the ship.
The student in the video below decided he wanted his boat to only be partially lifted off the page so he choose to only put one foam square behind his pirate ship.
