Instruction & Management

Management Beliefs

I am a strong believer in the idea that in order to establish classroom management it is essential to establish classroom norms and a safe inclusive classroom from the beginning. Creating classroom norms allows for students to feel more secure within the classroom by establishing routines that they can expect.

I formed my class management style through trial and error. In the past, I have learned that when classrooms lack routine and classroom norms student's tend to feel uncertain of how to behave.

The principles I plan to reinforce in my future classroom is establishing  a student-centered classroom where I will be a partner in learning with my students, together with their input I will establish a classroom and curriculum that best suits my students. I also am a strong believer in choice based projects where student's have the freedom and power to make choices about the art they will create. Through the use of these principles I will be able to create a positive and inclusive learning environment in which my students can flourish by allowing my student's to have a voice and choice in the way they learn.

Safety and Management

Safety within the art room is extremely important. The art classroom is full of a multitude of tools, with those tools come safety precautions. It's important that student's understand safety rules in order for them to properly utilize tools and avoid being injured. I will provide my students with basic safety rules about the materials in the classroom at the beginning of the year and reinforce those rules throughout the year. As another safety precaution I plan to store any dangerous art tools/materials in a locked closet in order to ensure students do not have access to the tools without my supervision.

Differentiation and Accommodation

Differentiation and accommodation is an integral part to creating a safe and inclusive classroom. I use both on a daily basis while teaching.
