Standard 2: Establishes a safe, inclusive and respectable learning environment for a diverse population of students.

Reasoning Statement:
The images to the left are pictures of a students final work for the coil vase project I had introduced. During the planning stage of this project, this student came to me with a plan to make a set of three vases instead of one. She asked if she still had to meet the height requirement of twelve inches for each vase. I decided to differentiate the final product for her and let her make three smaller vases instead of one large one. I think that this example is a good representation of my ability to provide diversity among students while still having them working towards a common goal.

The images above are photographs of a students final project for the coil vase assignment.

Reasoning Statement:
The word document to the right is the reflection I wrote after attending the Diversity Symposium at CSU. I believe this reflects my ability to learn more about how to establish a safe, inclusive and respectable learning environment for a diverse population of students.

Diversity Symposium Reflection

Reasoning Statement:
The word document to the left is the exit slip I gave my students on the first day of me teaching. The exit slip consists of numerous questions that enabled me to get to know my students better and learn how to best meet their needs to provide an inclusive, safe and respectful learning environment.
Reflection
I believe that when it comes to standard 2 I am advanced. Throughout this semester I was able to foster a predictable learning environment by keeping basic routines consistent such as morning announcements, attendance and demonstrations. I also was able to effectively divide up my class time so that I was able to spend time with the class as a whole and have time to work one on one with each student. I consistently differentiated the curriculum in order to meet the needs of each individual student and was able to engage students as individuals by assigning projects that were open ended. This semester I did not have the opportunity to work collaboratively with student's families but I hope to have the chance to strengthen and develop that skill in student teaching.
