Settings And Context

Community Connections is a class for young adults with disabilities who are unable to live alone but are independent when it comes to thinking and  being creative.  They would come to the art education room on CSU's campus, on Monday afternoons every two weeks from 12:30 - 2:00 PM. This group of students was very lively, and sometimes the class was challenging to manage. There were usually four to three paras that would come each time with about 15 students. The students that we worked with all varied in abilities, some of our students were mute and a few others had very limited control of their motor skills. Some of our students also had a very difficult time staying engaged and would often get up and move around during class. However, despite the challenges, this class continuously made me proud with the effort they put into the projects and the discoveries they made while making art. Overall I feel very lucky to have gotten this service learning opportunity to work with these amazing students and to learn all that I have from them.
